My Teacher, My Guide & Role Model - A Letter written on how I feel about him

Dear Sir,
The ascent of “the master and student legacy” has been a blessing to the whole world. The relationship of excellence between the master and the student depicted in completeness by Dronacharya and Arjuna has been the focal point of my life with you gracefully occupying the seat of the great master. A master who has bestowed his knowledge coupled with distilled wisdom of ages to ensure, that, I as a student excel and make you proud. There is more to you as a person which is difficult to put in words. However, some that have outshone you in my eyes have been penned here to show my admiration to you as a wonderful unforgettable master.

You are an “incorrigible optimist”, a quality that very few live by and this is the central force that rekindles optimism in people around you. And if “motivation” has a name then it has to be “Prof. Martin” as you are an epitome of motivation, who has ignited lives of many including mine. To call you a “walking encyclopedia” is the greatest joy for me as I see many who have tasted that elixir of knowledge from the vast ocean of experiential wisdom that you behold. As a “versatile author” your writings have etched and inscribed the subject in each students mind never to fade from their memory. There are lots that I have learnt from you consciously and unconsciously, that I treasure till this day. I have always revered you as “a value driven educationist” who has found ways to make quality education available to all and making their life beautiful and worthwhile. And it is this ideology that helped me evolve into a cherished corporate trainer and a Learning & Development specialist today. An “eloquent Speaker” are you who moves minds and transforms lives of listeners, some of whom have become contributive visionaries. Each quote of yours resounds in my life each day thereby refining me and my life towards becoming a worthy individual. Being a “gifted humorist”, your cheerful disposition is highly contagious, it lightens the heavy hearts, revitalizes distraught emotions, relieves internal agony and creates an atmosphere where people begin to feel their “life is beautiful”. Such a quality is rare to find and I guess I have silently had my share of benefits from the timely, wise & witty humour in each of your sessions.  Your monetary, physical, intellectual, emotional, moral and spiritual contributions definitely make you a “bundle of compassion” who has devoted his entire life to uplift students and raise their lives far above mediocrity. I can vouch of being one such benefactor.

You to me are a “god incarnate” who has helped me in resurfacing my hidden talents and re-created me to what I am today. You have nurtured me into becoming a worthy individual in the eyes and lives of my parents raising much above their expectations. You have destroyed my ignorance, my helplessness, my apprehensions and fears, my unproductive attitude, my self-limiting beliefs and most importantly refurbished my ego with your unstinted coaching and mentoring. When these three attributes “creating”, “nurturing” and “destroying” culminate, the form that emerges out can be no lesser than GOD. No wonder in Hinduism it is transcribed “Achaarya Devo Bhava” which means “Teacher is the manifestation of god”, hence you so truly deserve and hold this position in my life. You certainly have played a variety of roles in my life as – a teacher, a guide, a friend, a philosopher, a coach, a mentor and sometimes as a parent too. Each distinctly carved and chiseled the jagged edges and brought in finesse in all the aspects of my life.

Just as it is difficult to explain how a “tree” is in a “seed”, so also your persona the radiance of which can be felt and experienced but very hard to pen into words. You certainly are a blessing to me Sir and gods have been kind in this matter to me. If god were to offer me a boon, I would certainly ask him to bless this entire world with dedicated “Teachers” like you or in our language “Gurus” adorned with unfathomable knowledge, wisdom, experience, eloquence, compassion, a sense of purpose, vision, undeterred drive, willingness to share, power to inspire and above all the power to let go such that tired, disillusioned, hungry souls evolve into worthy personalities. Thank you for everything that you have given me Sir, you certainly mean a lot to me.

Seeking your blessings always from your ardent student,
Dr. Avinash Salgar
