3 decades ago when I met you the first time,
a towering personality you looked, sturdy and divine.
As I beheld your form with my inept intellect & meek looks,
your inspiring speech rekindled me to immerse in books.
So awestruck was I and called you a “walking encyclopedias”,
your intriguing skills & wisdom helped me generate better ideas.
Gifted were you with impeccable eloquence and a powered assertive voice,
which doused my negative thoughts, emotions and erased the mental noise.
A man of quotes were you who used them with a smooth drift
so powerful were they to resolve every student’s intellectual rift.
The quotes with your insights upsurged my intellectual evolution
a tribute to you I pen them, as my life transforming solution.
Your first quote “don’t give up your life until you finish serving the nation”
made me dive deep, learn & specialize in India’s Public Administration.
“You can choose anything in life, but not your parents” was your next one,
which made me respect, admire and adore them to become their worthy son.
“Life is not a bed of roses, it comes with thorns too” said you with heavy heart,
it taught me to accept life’s highs & lows whenever they came in sudden spurt.
“Knock the door once if it doesn’t open then break it”was one quote so tricky,
thus I realized being a resilient seeker keeps the mind from being murky.
When once I asked you “I want to change myself is it good to change”
your 3 sentences that followed were striking and strange.
“Change is in the gain and gain is in the change.”
“Change is temporary but transformation is permanent”
“Go for transformation young man for a wider opportunity range”.
Your quotes are not hearsay but chiseled inscriptions on my heart,
they’ve transformed my naïve disposition to become really smart.
Until I reached you, I was the mud trampled under the feet of many,
you then moulded me, baked me & dressed me with qualities so many.
Today as I stand tall with knowledge, skills, successes and achievements galore,
all attributed to you for educating, grooming, coaching, mentoring, guiding & more
Appreciating you for living by your life’s principle “Not educating a seeker is THE greatest sin”
With reverence I bow, as you make me feel proud to be YOUR student Prof. Martin.
This poem is dedicated to you Sir, written with love, appreciation, admiration, adoration & reverence
